The Northern Navigator Initiative helps couples going through separation or divorce to find the best options to deal with their situation. It’s in effect in the Provincial Court registries in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, and Chetwynd.
A Provincial Court judge may order your family to meet with an intake coordinator, called the Navigator. You each meet separately with the Navigator to discuss which services (including mediation) would be suitable for you. The Navigator then gives information to a judge who may decide to order mediation for your family
Options for mediation include a private mediator of your choice (at your expense), a Navigator roster mediator charging fees on a sliding scale, a mediator provided by legal aid, or distance mediation with a Family justice counsellor.
The Northern Navigator Initiative has been extended until April 30, 2019.
